FAQ
Frequently asked questions
A head spa is like a facial treatment, but for your hair and scalp. It involves detoxifying and gently exfoliating the scalp to remove impurities, followed by a thorough wash, conditioning, and nourishing treatments tailored to your hair’s needs. Each step is given time to absorb fully, allowing the active ingredients to work deeply. While the treatments settle, you’ll receive therapeutic massages on the scalp, neck, shoulders, and arms, promoting deep relaxation and a refreshed, balanced feeling.
The Japanese head spa originated from ancient traditional healing practices rooted in shiatsu massage, Kampo herbal medicine, and onsen (hot spring) therapies. It evolved over centuries in Japan, focusing on relaxation, scalp health, and energy balance, based on the philosophy that a healthy scalp leads to overall emotional and physical wellness. In modern times, Japanese head spas have become formalized as luxury wellness treatments combining traditional techniques with advanced scalp therapies.
The Korean head spa has ancient roots in Korea's communal bathhouse culture and traditional herbal medicine. It integrates deep cleansing and exfoliation with modern technology like LED therapy and scalp analysis. Korean head spas developed as multi-step, result-driven treatments prioritizing scalp detoxification and hair health, blending ancestral wisdom with innovation. They emphasize treating the scalp like facial skin to promote long-term hair vitality.
Both spas focus on scalp care but differ culturally in their approaches and treatment styles.
At Aloemira Spa, our goal is to bridge traditional and modern self-care. Our services closely align with both the Japanese and Korean approaches, utilizing a multi-step treatment system with ingredients known to benefit scalp and hair health. We take a mindful approach, emphasizing holistic well-being of the scalp, body, and mind, ultimately restoring balance and promoting overall rest.
Head spa treatments are gentle and safe for most guests; however, they may not be suitable for everyone. We recommend avoiding or postponing your treatment if you are sensitive to touch around the head, neck, or shoulders, have active scalp conditions, or experience skin allergies to common cosmetic or botanical ingredients.
If you have any medical conditions, are pregnant, or are undergoing treatment for a health concern, we suggest consulting your healthcare provider or contacting Aloemira Spa in Vancouver in advance. Our team will be happy to guide you toward the most comfortable and suitable service for your needs.
We’re unable to perform head spa treatments on hair with tight braids or extensions, as these styles limit access to the scalp and reduce the effectiveness of cleansing. For the best experience, we recommend scheduling your head spa after removing extensions or loosening braids so we can fully treat and nourish your scalp.
If you’re seeking relaxation and upper body care in the meantime, our RMT Stress Relief treatment is an excellent option it includes a full scalp massage and targeted work on the neck, shoulders, and arms.
Absolutely! The products we use are customized to your current hair condition, ensuring treatments are safe for chemically treated hair.
Our facial service is a non-invasive, rejuvenating treatment that begins with a thorough cleansing and makeup removal. It’s followed by a gentle facial massage using jojoba oil for normal skin, or hemp oil or aloe vera gel for acne-prone skin during the non-active phase. The treatment incorporates both hot and cold stones and concludes with a soothing Hydrojelly mask applied over the face and eyes (optional) for 30 minutes, allowing you to continue experiencing deep relaxation. Once the mask is removed, we finish with a moisturizer tailored to your skin type and SPF protection.
Each head spa package includes hair and scalp treatments combined with therapeutic massages. Choose the stand alone head spa treatment or pair it with our restorative facials.
